Poland may have enjoyed their greatest international renown in the mid-1970s, but it is a player from the next generation who can lay claim to the title of his country's best. Zbigniew Boniek hit the world headlines at the 1982 World Cup, when a crisply taken hat-trick against Belgium earned him a big-money move to Juventus. In Italy, Boniek's predatory skills made him the outstanding performer in a side that was at the peak of its powers.
