The first Brazilian footballer to reach an official century of caps, defender Djalma Santos helped his nation to achieve back-to-back World Cup victories in 1958 and 1962. A thoughtful player who possessed excellent positional sense, he played for Brazil again in the 1966 tournament help in England, but by then his best years were already behind him.

Santos was one of the players who turned out for Rest of the World against England in the FA Centenary match of 1963.
